The Republic of China (1945-1949) was a historical period in China, after the defeat of Imperial Japan in World War II (|) and before the Chinese government was forced to relocate to the island of Taiwan, after loosing the Chinese civil war. On mainland China the People's Republic of China was established as result of the civil war, while the government of the Republic of China continued in Taiwan.

Background
