The International Authority for the Ruhr (1949-1952) was a intergovernmental organization that was put in charge of industrial production in the Ruhr Area, in North Rhine-Westphalia of West Germany.[1] The purpose was to exercise control over heavy industy, like steel production, which historically had been of crucial importance for German military potential during both World War I (|) and World War II (|).

It ended its work in 1952 when the European Coal and Steel Community was established. All the members of the IAR, except the United States, became members of the Coal and Steel Community, in which they all pledged to put their coal and steel production under the control of the new supranational community.

Council Edit

The council was composed of the members of the IAR.
